For decades, my family's name has been in headlines, books, and rumors. But the world only knows the myths and the legends. This page sets the record straight and shares the real family story from the one person still here to tell it firsthand.
Born in Brooklyn in 1951, I am the son of Colombo crime family figure Greg Scarpa Sr. I followed my father into the organization and eventually rose to caporegime myself. I am the living, firsthand witness to my family's history - and today I'm telling my own account directly, without a ghostwriter or outside spin.
I was arrested in 1988, and across two separate federal cases, I was ultimately sentenced to decades in prison. I served my time in some of the most secure facilities in the United States, including the ADX Florence supermax in Colorado and the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. In total, I spent 32 years incarcerated.
In November 2020, after more than three decades inside and a serious battle with cancer, I was granted compassionate release by a federal judge. My treatment has left me with lasting health challenges, and I now live modestly while sharing my story publicly and raising funds for ongoing medical care.
Two reasons. First, I want people to hear the truth directly from me, rather than secondhand rumors. Second, telling my story through interviews, videos, and direct conversations helps me cover the cost of the cancer treatment I depend on.
32 years, across facilities including the ADX Florence supermax, before his compassionate release in 2020.
